John Luther Jones acquired the nickname "Casey" from being a resident of Cayce, Kentucky at one time. A railroader since boyhood, he was an engineer on the Illinois Central for the last ten years of his life. The "big eight - wheeler" in which he won his fame was a part of the Cannonball Express between Chicago and New Orleans and Jone's run was between Canton, Mississippi, and Memphis. He was killed when his train crashed into the rear of a freight train near Vaughn, Mississippi on April 30, 1900.
